Why Play Therapy?
Children don't talk through their problems like adults because they don't have the same understanding of the world and their emotions. When a child is experiencing big feelings and emotions, their brains do not have the capacity to deal with the overwhelming emotions due to developmental factors. This is why we see children having emotional outbursts or 'temper tantrums'.
Play therapy provides the opportunity for children to work through difficulties in a more age-appropriate and natural way. Play releases oxytocin and helps the child feel happy and safe. New playful connections help the brain to grow and create new neural pathways. Both Sides of the Brain will start working together and help the child to use language to describe their feelings.
